CRC CARE has been awarded a 2010 STAR Award for its work in
treating wastewater contaminated with perfluorochemicals (PFCs),
commonly found as a residual from the use of fire-fighting foam.
This project was initiated by the Department of Defence as part of
CRC CARE’s demonstration program.
The STAR Award, an initiative of the CRC Program in the federal
Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, is
designed to recognise CRC achievements in working with
small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) to transfer CRC innovation. CRC
CARE’s award is based on the technical innovation involved in
the production of MatCARETM, a new system patented by
CRC CARE, and its partnership with Soil and Groundwater Consulting
Pty Ltd in its testing.
MatCARETM developer Dr Venkata Kambala and CRC CARE
Chairman Paul Perkins were at the awards announcement, held in
Alice Springs on 28 May 2010 at the CRC Association annual
conference gala dinner.
CRC CARE shared the honours of the night with CAST CRC, who were
also awarded a STAR Award for their work in metals technology.
A big congratulations to Venkata and everyone associated with the
project on this fantastic achievement.
Congratulations also to Dr Kandsamy Thangavadivel, who was a
finalist for the 'Showcasing Early Career Scientists' award at
conference for his PhD project 'Development and application of
ultrasound technology for treatment of organic pollutants'.
