Project 6-5-01-07/08: Port Stanvac

Project Leader: Dr Albert Juhasz

Duration of Project: October 2007 - October 2010

Project Summary

This project has been initiated in response to an invitation from Southern Regions / SA Environment Minister and Mobil Refining Australia Ltd to develop a major initiative focussing on the assessment of contaminants and risk based management options for the Port Stanvac refinery site in South Australia.

Researchers from CRC CARE, in partnership with Mobil, the University of South Australia and Coffey Environments Pty Ltd, will use the Port Stanvac site to test environmentally-friendly, cost-effective bioremediation strategies to clean up petroleum residues.

The project will initially focus its activities (scopes) at three discrete locations at the Port Stanvac site:

Scope 1: Wharf road / foreshore / ballast tank farm
Scope 2: Ex-situ soil bioremediation cell
Scope 3: In-situ soil bioremediation site (Crude tank farm area)
