Risk characterisation

This subprogram is seeking to develop a standard Australian basis for assessing ‘acceptable risk’. Specifically it is developing:

  • A database of the level of risk estimated, the likelihood of adverse effects on human health and the cost to the community
  • Statistically sound and validated methods for estimating the reasonable maximum exposure and risk to human health and ecosystems and
  • A set of health and ecological investigation levels for a wide range of contaminants and conditions relevant to Australia.
