Department of Defence Program

CRC CARE’s Department of Defence demonstration program focuses on laboratory and field-based investigation of potentially contaminated sites, and the validation of innovative technologies developed for their assessment and remediation.

The program uses interdisciplinary methodologies to arrive at optimal solutions for the complex environmental problems at a range of representative sites across Australia.

Projects

  • Bioremediation of TCE contaminated groundwater at Edinburgh Defence Precinct (EDP) Site 14, Edinburgh
  • Remediation of hydrocarbon contamination in former fuel farms (Area 1 & 2), RAAF Williamtown
  • AFFF contamination, monitoring tool and bioremediation
  • AFFF-impacted soils and management strategies
  • Gradient permeable reactive barrier for treating TCE contaminated groundwater at EDP Site 9, Edinburgh
  • Surfactant enhanced in-situ chemical oxidation (S-ISCO) and enhanced bioremediation of remediation of volatile organic compounds at Edinburgh, Sites 1,2 & 3
  • AFFF wastewater remediation, RAAF Edinburgh
  • Modified natural clays for remediation of hazardous substances
  • Development of a national technical guidance document for PRBs in Australia
  • In-situ chemical stabilisation of shooting range soils
  • Modular vapour intrusion model in the unsaturated subsurface conditions for effective management and remediation of potentially contaminated site
