Performance
of Reactive Filtration Material for Stormwater Treatment
Biography
Othman
Al-Mashaqbeh is a PhD student investigating the performance of
filtration media for stormwater treatment. He has a Bachelor degree
in chemical engineering (1994) and a masters degree in civil
engineering/Water and Environment (1997). He was a researcher at
the Water Research Centre/Royal Scientific Society in Jordan from
1998 until he started his PhD. His research focused mainly on
wastewater treatment (industrial and domestic).

Project Details
This
project is focussed on increasing market demand for stormwater
treatment products containing recycled organics. Within the rapidly
expanding markets for Water Sensitive Urban Design and Aquifer
Recharge application there is commercial scope for filtration media
and design expertise a manufactured soil/barrier. This project
addresses this research area through establishing performance data
and scientific understandings of contaminant removal within the
typical hydraulic conditions established within sand
filter/biorentention systems. The focus in the current project is
stromwater treatment with metal removal using controlled release of
nutrients (N,P) and dissolved organic carbon. Release is controlled
by sorbent properties and type of sorbents. COntrolled release is
needed to minimise regulatory concern about ecological impact of
the technology.
