Key issues facing the industry

Some of the key issues facing the industry that have already been identified and that need to be addressed include:

  • Establishing and maintaining effective commercial collaboration in the remediation industry in Australia to capture national and international market opportunities.

  • Identifying and disseminating business opportunities in Australia, nationally, and internationally.

  • Fostering an integrated environmental business development culture.

  • Providing support, direction and information to those active and those seeking to become active in the remediation industry.

  • Providing practical support to education, research, and development of new and innovative environment-related practices and technologies.

  • Providing linkages to governments, trade groups, research groups, and export associations both local and external to Australia.

  • Promoting Australian remediation capability, technology, and services.

  • Identifying the challenges facing organisations involved in the practice of remediating and preventing contamination.

  • Identifying technology gaps, prioritising them and then developing a process to ensure the most important ones impacting on the industry are addressed.

  • Facilitating the formation of specialist groups to address impediments where suitable parties do not already exist.

  • Establishing strong linkages with government agencies to facilitate industry involvement in policy development.

  • Providing a broad-based community of expertise for dialogue with agencies involved in regulation and policy development.

  • Supporting the diffusion of technology, knowledge and best practice in remediation of contamination both nationally and internationally.

  • Identifying gaps in industry training and working with the CRC and other providers to fill these gaps.

  • Providing a two-way conduit linking CRC CARE and the wider community of organisations involved in remediation and prevention of contamination.

  • Facilitating the establishment of an effective accreditation/certification framework that will ensure the maintenance of standards within the assessment and remediation industry.

Pollution prevention

Preventing pollution is the long-term goal in a perfect society. We do not live in a perfect society and even if we did, accidents will still occur and contamination will still need to be remediated.
