Thesis title

Cabon dynamics in forest ecosystems affected by stand development, incidence of forest disease and fertiliser application

Project description

Understanding carbon dynamics in forest ecosystems is essential for maximising carbon sequestration and for minimising carbon emissions from forest soils. This is because carbon allocation by various components such as the biomass carbon, forest floor, wood residue, and soil layers can vary through stand development processes due to changes in tree growth and mortality rates in forest ecosystems. The overall objectives of this project are to determine the effect on carbon dynamics of stand age sequence, forest fertilisation and forest disease. This project will evaluate the effects on soil carbon storage by age sequences and site quality of radiata pine plantations in southern Australia. The project also aims to quantify the impacts on carbon dynamics at various levels of damage intensities of pine wilt disease in red pine stands in Korea and to determine the effects on the carbon dynamics after fertilisation in red pine forest in Korea.

Student Profile

Jaeyeob completed her Bachelor of Science at Gyeongnam National University of Science and Technology, Korea in 2007 and continued with studying towards Masters Degree in Science. After she completed her Masters Degree in 2009 Jaeyeob took up the role as research associate at Gyeongnam National University of Science and Technology.
