Student Profile

Shofiqul is a Lecturer in the Department of Soil Science at the Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh where he has been a faculty member since 2011. He completed his B.Sc.Ag (Hons.) and M.S. in Soil Science at the Bangladesh Agricultural University, and obtained a National Science and Information & Communication Technology fellowship in 2007 for his M.S. research entitled “Effects of arsenic contamination on growth, yield and arsenic concentration in different varieties of rice”. Shofiqul has also completed a training course on Conservation Agriculture at CIMMYT’s headquarters in Mexico.

Shofiqul's research interests lie in heavy metal pollution of soil-plant systems, with a focus on human health risk assessment. He has published several research papers in national and peer-reviewed international journals, and is currently a PhD student at the University of South Australia under the supervision of Professor Ravi Naidu, Managing Director of the Cooperative Research Centre for Contamination Assessment and Remediation of the Environment (CRC CARE).
