CRC CARE – in collaboration with participating local jurisdictions – coordinated a national workshop series to provide regulators, site assessors, consultants, environmental auditors, landowners, developers and industry practitioners with an opportunity to come together and gain an understanding of the changes, new elements, and implementation of Assessment of Site Contamination (ASC) NEPM. At these events members of the ASC NEPM Variation team, along with the technical experts involved in developing guidance for inclusion into the NEPM Schedules, presented the changes and identified new aspects of the amended NEPM.

The aim of workshop was to assist people involved in the industry in interpreting the guidance to enable its uptake and application. Local jurisdictional representatives also presented on the transition and implementation plans, relevant to their jurisdiction, for the amended NEPM.

The roadshow – which brought together over 600 delegates – covered a number of topics including:

  • implementation
  • site characterisation
  • ecological risk assessment
  • health risk assessment, and
  • assessment of petroleum hydrocarbons.

A DVD of the event is available here.

The speaker’s presentations are available here.

The updated NEPM is available on the Standing Council of Environment and Water website at www.scew.gov.au/nepms/assessment-site-contamination.
