Program 3: Risk Assessment

CRC CARE's Minimising Uncertainty in Risk Assessment program conducts research into the fate and dynamics of volatiles and semi-volatiles, groundwater discharge into surface water ecosystems, flux, and the effect of time on contaminant behaviour. The program is also assembling and indexing information on the level of risk estimated for compliance with Australian regulations. Program 3 develops statistically sound methods for estimating the reasonable maximum exposure and risk to human health and ecosystems – a key input into determining what represents a balanced remediation outcome.

The key research areas for this program are:

  • Quantifying contaminant toxicity and bioavailability
  • Reasonable risk and compliance model
  • Quantifying pathways of exposure and transient risks.
